ARC Abatement’s Dallas branch completed a six-figure asbestos abatement project with Plano ISD. ARC’s crew successfully abated over 4,800 square feet of asbestos-containing overspray texture on concrete ceilings and 120 square feet of old soffit texture. All asbestos abatement activities were completed under full containment conditions consisting of critical barriers, negative pressure, a decontamination unit, and work area preparation per the consultant’s specifications.
All public and private schools have the responsibility of protecting school children and employees from asbestos exposure. This is done by the EPA’s Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) program. Under AHERA, all schools must be inspected for asbestos and maintain a management plan for asbestos in place to reduce the hazard of asbestos exposure. Most school projects are held during the summer or winter breaks to allow the asbestos abatement crews to have ample time to complete all asbestos abatement activities before construction efforts. While asbestos abatement is in process, it is required that all areas be marked with correct signage of asbestos exposure risks, and the proper PPE must be worn at all times during asbestos abatement activities.
